Building a Harmonious Society Together
How Can Students Promote Inclusion Between Persons With and Without Disabilities?
Building a harmonious and inclusive society is not a task that can be achieved solely by the government, businesses, or organisations. It is everyone’s responsibility.
No act of kindness is too small. Regardless of age or identity, each of us can make a positive impact in our daily lives and help build a caring, accessible, and inclusive community together.
As a Students, We Can…
Take the Initiative to Understand
Learn more about the needs of persons with disabilities and let go of prejudice and stereotypes.
Put Yourself in Others’ Shoes
Treat persons with disabilities with empathy, equality, and respect, while avoiding excessive pity or sympathy.
Offer Help
When encountering persons with disabilities who may need assistance, take the initiative to ask: “Do you need any help?” Then provide assistance according to their wishes.
Give Way and Share Space
- Offer seats to those in need when using public transport.
- Allow people with special needs to use lifts first.
Build a Friendly School Environment
When meeting classmates with special needs, invite them to join games or group activities instead of excluding or teasing them.
Engage With the Community
Participate more in volunteer services, such as visiting activities organised by social welfare organisations, and support inclusion through real actions.
The examples above are only some everyday situations. In fact, whether as students or members of society, everyone can take one extra step within their own abilities to help promote inclusion between persons with and without disabilities.
